Bell System Public Telephone Porcelain Sign
This crisp round sign kept it simple, the way the phone company liked it: deep navy on a clean white field. PUBLIC curves across the top and TELEPHONE sweeps around the bottom, framing a center ring that holds the famous Bell System bell, drawn in navy with BELL SYSTEM lettered in white across its face. A navy band trims the outer edge, and there are mounting holes at the top and bottom. The back is plain white.
At 8.75 inches across, it's an easy size to hang beside an old rotary or candlestick phone, in a hallway nook, office or den, and a nice find for anyone who collects telephone and phone booth memorabilia.
Fun fact: The Bell System was nicknamed "Ma Bell," and by the early 1980s it employed more than one million people.
